3-20-39? Phacelia Douglasii Torr var Cryptantha Brand J836; M#11. Fluv adv. fr. Brown Point. Scales promise to be strongly papillose not "transversely corrugated". Scales minute but there seems no place for our plant in N°s = 1-6. Ovaries more than 2 to each placenta. Lvs cut almost to mid-rib into ovate or deltoid lobes (more simply & regularly than Jo Fig 793). Scales forming tiny feathery barbs of filament (not at all as in Jo Fig 793). This is greatest obstacle to ident. Otherwise reasonably good. Cordle very pale blue shading toward white at base, 4mm long &c. no longer than calyx. Stems excluded. &L. Fruiting pedicels tending to curve ↑ (Mr.G. verifies ident) 3-20-39 Lupinus See M. 246, J517; B.M.Q.C. 407 Fluv young fr. Vacant lot, west side of L.J. toward L.T.H. (before reaching corner turning toward Anchorage Coast.) This field full ? Limonium sinuatum (see 2-5-39) & Mrs. Atwater suggests it was once a florists garden. Esjovs. Lupinus is an escape. R.B.K. does not remember whether it was seen (at any distance) elsewhere. Can- not be made to fit into any of Mo's species. Plants look like annuals but this not sure, 6in tall, many stems (often spreading or ± decumbent) from base. Sts, lvs, bracts, calyx all def bristly with soft, white, spreading hairs, resulting in somewhat grayish effect. As 1st flg raceme open, infd looks almost capitate vis (lobed at frambors) star- shaped but later, as pos fr. matures, not whorled.
