Our plant had evidently had original st. broken near base v now consisted of (as also herein notes) also several axillary sts (2 in high) from base. On these the withering involucres def yellowish. Note irreconcilable differences bet. TVM in dese which would leave R.D.K with no guess except that this plant seems surely same as plant of 8-4-39 [8-4-39 Bud from Mr. G at Nat. Hist. Museum. Mr. G G. [species verified by Mr. G, later acc. to label] flabellary. G. benedictus but must be taken to be sure. Stem 15 in. General look & liv. stiff v brisly like 7-28 but tomentum such that herbage gray with no greenish yellow cast. Branches ± confolately in 7-28 this does not conspicuous) 9-28-39 Perezia microcephala Gray J1014; M584 Fl v/fz. fr. Sorrento Rd. (see 6-25-39) Achenes (now) narrow, almost linear, 5/6 mm long, 5 angled, sides rugose (perhaps only because drying immature) glandular. Papfuse 8-9mm? 8-1-39? Aster spinosus Bentle J1049; M531 Fl v/fz. Moreno is shortly north of bridge at foot of Presidio Hill. 5 ft or more high. Stems green v naked below, much branched & need naked above. Fl. looks like Aster vagres with dense general recept- acule alveolate (see Gray 800) Invol 5mm high. Heads 10 mm diam Rays 3-4mm. Plants not spiny in usual sense but the rigid naked branchlets (some as short as ½ in others several inches) may be noted. I say "often with spines 2-6 lines (i.e 4-75mm) long. Only one or two on our plant sneet this require. ment.
