P.B.K does not find "4 or 5 glands at base of ovary" (M1 & T) 6-29-39 Atriplex Fl v fr. Poway Park -> Escondido. Decumbent v spread- ing mat-like with very many, very slender, stiff (not quite woody), yellowish branches from a thick woody base (so that plant seems bound to be a perennial. General color effect light grayish green. Loo bracts closely scurfy (i.e. scurf not in globules as in A. Californica 3-6-21 and 4-4-39) which in habit v general looks plant strongly suggests. Fruiting bracts very diff from 6-21. Fr. bracts sub- obicular 3 mm x 3 mm with sharp (obvious tho short) dents except towards the +/- cuneate base. Bracts hard & woody (as R.B.K. knows in no other A. v) slightly closed machine, occasionally slightly tuberculate on sides. (This woodiness suggests A. vexa which otherwise acc to desc differs from our plant in many chars.) No conspicuous terminal spikes of fls. General effect of plant leads one to think fls floximised. Possi- bly however, fls are in that inconspicuous terminal spikes this fact being obscured by small outtending lvs v by one or more fr-bracts at base | each 2 globules,
