6-21-39 Cotyledon (see C. lanceolata Brew & Wats J 453) = Echeveria lanceolata Nutt M 213. Pacific Beach, foot of [illegible] Common. Properly descr in (M), not in (J). Radi- cels def short v stout. Corollas often with only slightest reddish tinge (ie yellow) at first and turning red with age. Calyx lobes triangular-ovate. 6-21-39 ? A triplex decumbens Wats J 356 = A. watsonii Nels M 140 Flo v fr. Pacific Beach. Foot of Loring St. Cfd with A. leucophylla 6-21 (see 6-5-39). No pars. confusing the 2 species [a T.S. v psd, even earlier]. Sts slender, woody, [illegible] (in A. l-thick, almost succulent v pinkish under surf) Lvs relatively narrower, some lanceolate, well taper- ing to acute apex. Bracts compressed, def broadest at or near base v tapering to acute apex, [often shaped much like Indian arrow-heads; “triangular, trun- cate at base” (J) good desc] not tuberculate but usually def. the slightly erose. Many st coll conspicuous with the "♀ glomerules in sealed terminal spikes" (M). One st coll has only ♂ flo fr with no signs of ever having had ♀ glomerules. But the others (from different plants) with the conspicuous ♀ glomerules frequently have a fr at base of glomerule (perhaps more so many frs had fallen in box) v also fr in axils for lower on the branch. (M says “dioecious” hence R.B is query about ident. J does not mention this char.) This seems only pars in M. Surf or lvs very similar to that on A. leucophylla.
