5-25-39 Bulb. Inspiration Point. (Assumed when col to be a habitate because of strong resemblance to Massumbium). St. as col. 1½ in at ont, obfusely square, white more less opp., very rugose, crenate, broadly rate, to 3¾, grey-green glabrous above; more so beneath. Flo indivise whole maxila with linear bracts having hooked spiny tips. Calyx (or istam invol- cere?) stellate pubescent v glandular with 10 (or more) ribs with hooked spiny tips v ring erect hairs at throat. Within this somewhat similar tubular member with hooked spiny tips enclosing what may (or may not) be a abortin staminate pariesite. All very peculiar. Just possibly this may be Massumbium vulgare L. T 865; M 471; G 696; BMG CP 648 gone very wrong. No def. odor when plant studied a week later [?]. with M. 26-12-39 suspicious ident. strengthened. 5-25-39 Lotus Flo very young fr. Inspiration Point. Sts prostrate, to 2½ ft, almost glabrous but on older (main) parts but younger parts, lvs, calices etc all obviously abuggy pubescent (hairs not at all apparent). Lfts 4-5; largest 20x13 mm; racis much flattened. Infl of several fls (6-8 or more), on short peduncle, with one large (usually as long as ped.) lft.-like brt Fl 7mm overall; Calyx tube 2mm, teeth 2mm.
