Mojave Desert, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
We arose at 0700 and ate breakfast.
at 0900 we began looking for
reptiles in the sandy area west of
Dale Dry Lake. We caught:
Uma scoparia Dipsoaurus dorsalis
Phrynosoma platyrhinos Urosaurus gracilis
Other animals seen were:
Le Conte thrasher yellow warbler
Red-tailed hawk Turkey vulture
Raven Cliff swallow
We left this area about 1230 and
drove into Joshua Tree Nat'l Mon. by
way of Old Dale. Along the way we
caught:
Sauromalus obesus Crotaphytus collaris
Dipsoaurus dorsalis
We reached 29 palms at 1600, and
UCR at 1745. The total trip (in #241)
was 539 miles. Maximum temp. today
was 90 °F. Total number of species
seen on the trip was 55 . The
total number of reptiles captured on
the trip was 95 . They were:
Urosaurus gracilis - 4 (2 ♂, 2 ♀)
Callisaurus draconoides - 6 (♂)
Dipsoaurus dorsalis - 10 (♂)
Coleonyx variegatus - 2 (1 ♂, 1 ♀)
Phrynosoma platyrhinos - 6 (5 ♂, 1 ♀)
Salvadora hexalepis - 1 (♂)
Uta stansburiana - 3 (1 ♂, 2 ♀)
