1077P501 Big Bend April 5-6, 1934 Agave lechuguilla. Mule deer (O. h. canus) commonly hunted in Chisoo region. "Fan-tailed deer" (O. teyaneus) also commonly hunted in Chisoo. Pronghorn & Bighorn moose seemed to know anything about, although I think it probable that pronghorn were here in former days because the range looks suitable, but probably not down in the proposed park proper. In the evening, bats began flying about over "Hector's" place on north edge of Chisoo. I took these to be the Big Brown Bat (Eptesicus fuscus). Smaller bats were common at dusk also, although I could not identify them. Black Bears (Ursus americanus) are reported still found in Chisoo. Mexican raccoon (Procyon lotor mexicanus) reported common along Rio Grande. Texas coonmistle (B. a. flavus) also common. Skunks (M. meunelas varanus and Spilogale leucoparia) common. The Hog-nosed skunk (Conepatus macdensus whearni) must also be present, although no one seemed to know. Badgers (Taxidea taxus berlandieri) reported present but not common.
