107 Carlbad Cavern Big Canyon April 24, 1931, Sigon, Wright, Thompson desert valley east of the Guadalupe of the Pecos. He saw 4 Sealed Quail in the lower canyon. Sigon reported the Mexican Big Horn Sheep up by the base of these cliffs, & all through the east side of the Guadalupe Wild Turkeys (The Merriam Turkey) up to almost in the Guadalupe. Sigon says they could be re-introduced successfully, since yellow pine country & water are there. He has planted a few there. The Meams (Fool Quail) Quail is also present although we saw none. None of the foregoing five are present in any other national park, except the quail which are at Carlbad. About 50 Elks (Yellowstone?) are planted at the south end of the Guadalupe. They have not increased yet; but Sigon thinks they would do better farther north in the mountain. They were planted about 3 years ago.
