ach a pain in the chest in the sternum. Cork had a headache + was very cold, it was probabl a mild sort of Soroche but two were not affected coming over the slopes at 14,600 feet. Juliacca is about 12,500 feet I met Stafford at the hotel an Englishman who lives at Anguipa. He told me that there were wild Huanacos near the Pampa de Arrieros but they were hunted so frequently that few remain. The country between Juliacca & Santa Rosa was uniform grass velds over a wide vale. Very little cultivation was seen, the country being grazed by department sheep in large flocks. Some cattle + pigs were seen. Birds were seen along forest, forest meadows. Many Culls, some coots + Black Dros. Scaled birds were very rare. Stopped at Santa Rosa at 1 Pm for lunch. No trees seen anywhere. Absence due for birds to grass. Some hawks seen a hillsides near Turipata Sta. Began to
