neighboring Windward Islands which are all volcanic and peaks of 2000 to 4,000 feet in height. The buildings are only 100 feet high. The Island has a series of coral rock terraces for the ground level central plateau - this everywhere green with cane- fields and in places with grows of trees & palms, a prominent feature of the landscape an old Dutch windmills & sugar factories, with their tall chimneys & Longcroft's factory. The population is 9/10 negro, the negro being of the small caribbean type with small features and often much white mixture. They speak only English apparently. The town of Bridgetown is small with a few shops & narrow streets. Curious stores carry a good stock of stuffed pets, alligator teeth
