Fort Simpson B.C. Aug.12. Got quite a good catch of Prook & Costomypo Raving all day. Aug.13. Made a trip to the head of the Bay east of the village and explored a considerable portion of the adjacent country. Found traces of porcupines and saw a great many tracks of deer. In a large patch of rank grass on the beach at the head of the bay. I found signs of Mictotis and red traps there. Shot several birds. Saw a large flock of migrating birds in the marshes composed of Parus rufescens, Helmuthophila, R. trinacri, Empidonax etc. Aug.14. Visited my traps at yesterday and got a good catch of Sorek & 3 microtis. Changed the position of many of my traps. Saw numerous signs of bears. Aug.16. Took three Zapus in grass and bushes on forest at mouth of "Salmon Creek" at head of bay east of village. Took also a Microtus (woodrat) different from any previously taken. Shot a flicker and A. cepitier a striatin
