M. linearis - Perou, Dombey (type)
Root + caudex somewhat fleshy, branches covered with old leaf-bases; caudex branches 0.5 - 1.5 cm. thick;
basal leaves linear, entire to deeply toothed, globose flat, 4 - 7 cm. long, acute, somewhat in tufts at the junction of stem + caudex; stems simple or branched, hollow, herbaceous, longest stem 6 dm. high;
cardinal lvs similar to basal, few, slightly overlapping;
2-3 cm. long; rife congested; pedicels ascending to somewhat divaricate, slender, nearly straight, lightly pubescent, 0.6 - 1.0 mm. long; axis of inflorescence definitely pubescent with simple curled hairs; stigmata stipitate; small scales present over the seed vessel; style stout, 2-3 mm. long; petals brownish, narrowly linear / , ca. 1 cm. long;
ssepals globose, outer pair markedly sacculate.
lvs. linear - lanceolata
Other spec. which seem to match type in all resp. chars.
Dombey no. 620 - the trifid basal lvs on one plant & this is not important.
M. Cl. Gay, 1839, Chili - shows transition to what has been called M. filifolia.
