Bob and Warren were told by Captain NOT to collect today because
he didn't wat to stop. ETA - Pearl - now 1530 on 18th.
Weather - Warm too hot with little wind - deep swells but very few waves.
Partly couldy to clear. Slight increase in wind near dusk.
0630 - Observations began - too dark to see birds.
0647 - Sooty Tern 1 ? heard calling near ship
0735 - Red-footed Booby - 1 W. (Imm.)
0730 - Japanese White eye - two on ship (collected) - according to one
of the chiefs these birds came aboard last night just before dusk (0730±)
0844 - Red-footed Booby - 1 NE
1008 - Red-tailed Tropicbird 1 ENE
1018 - Whale - 1 - 100 yards to starboard - 20 feet blow (currier).
1028 - Red-footed Booby - 1 N
1105 White-necked Petrel - 1 SE
1110 - 1 Petrel/shearwater 1 SE
1125 - 1 Wedgetail 1 SE
1147 - Dark Petrel or/ shearwater 1 SE
1206 Brown Booby - WSW (Imm.)
1322 - Harcourt's Storm Petrel - 1 ENE
1448 - " " " 1 WSW
1522 " " " 2 NW
Pterodroma (?) 1 SE
1533 - Harlcourt's Storm Petrel - 1 NE
1606 - Petrel sp? or storm petrel ? or shearwater ? 1 SE
Low over water - 300 yards across bow - well seen - small - storm
petrel size but with thin term-like pointed wings - body dark? Underwing
