Ely December 10, 1963 19 was very difficult to use binoculars except from behind superstructure and scanning to rear. 0745 - observations began 0700 - changed course to NW 0800 - set plankton detail (due to rough seas took water only). 0832 - secured plankton detail and resumed course and speed. 0910 - Wedgetail - 1 SE 0945 - small Pterdorma - 1 SE 1040 - Red-footed Booby 1 each Imm. 1117 - White-necked Petrel - 1 N Wedetail 1 N 1349 - entered rain squall 1414 - departed " " 1455 - entered " " 1505 departed " " 1648 shearwater/petrel 1 NE - long wings 1815 - Red-footed Booby 1 NE 1845 - Wedgetail 1 NW Wedetail ? 2 NW 1915 - Secured bird watch December 11 Overcast, still high winds and strong waves. Slighltening toward evening. Scattered showers. Visibility fair to good.
