28 Days FEBRUARY 1959 2nd Month RAINING 18 THURSDAY 50-315 SAN FRAN. → L.A. → LITTLE ROCK 4800 Ft. Up at 6 A.M., Caught 6:30 to airport, 8:1 flight to L.A. - much cloud. Snow on higher mts., Rented a Hertz car. Roads good, Arr. Little Rock 1:00 for lunch. Ethel (57) Luther (63) married 22yr 2nd marriage for both. Beautiful home at Juniper Hills. Aaron Willard long case maple clock. Lu has nature trail thru Joshua trees + Pinyon pines. Fire destroyed pines on Mt. above, looked thru "Little Museum". Bats + Birds + rocks + maps! Saw Kodachromes in evening. Showed N.G. too. Sleeping in guest cottage FROSTING OF SNOW AT BEAUTIFUL + COLD 19-20 FRIDAY 51-314 LITTLE ROCK → L.A. → SAN FRAN. Up 7:15 Cold! Clear. Last night's snow still on ground. Breakfast with a view to north. See Edwards Air Force Base. Hills to S. with deep snow still. Open + good road directly to airport. Left at 8:45 A.M. - Arr. 10:30 (89 mi.). Coach flight at 1 p.m. to hotel at 3:45. Telephoned Bob Orr. Tried Ivy Duce - line out of order. Called Dorcas + Cope McClintock. Took bus to Berkeley - had dinner with them at new home 2810 Prince St. Baby born June 8, 1959 Margaret Herrick. Cope drove me home. 20 SATURDAY 52-313 SAN FRANCISCO → NEW YORK Bus to Berkeley. Spent A.M. with Dr. R.A. Stirton looking at specimens and meeting students + seeing fossil material. Lunch with Stirt and then back to San F. Shopped in P.M., and to movies at night. Airport at 11:00 to catch Qantas jet to N.Y.C. Take off 11:45, fairly empty. 21 SUNDAY 53-312 NEW YORK Flew directly over Dottie + Bill's house. Landed at 7:45 (just 5 hrs., non-stop) - 3 hrs. difference in time. Hoby and Kay there to meet me. Home in an hour in H's new car to see Heather, Mimi and their new home at 22 Clinton Ave. The expedition is over!
