April 12 Jackson to Wilson The drove down to John Wilson's To load up the elk. On our way down we found 7 elk a calf & a 2 year old which had been killed last night by wolves. They had eaten the eyes and parts of the hams and bitten them in the throat Found 3 at least 2 wolves near about the carcasses, and on the way down to Wilson's, below, we saw the tracks of 17 wolves along the road 3 hours afternoon when we got the elk loaded and we then started on this way. The day was cold and snow fell intermittently all day. We marched Wilson in the early evening with the elk in good condition. The elk do not cross Snake Rear in this vicinity except in very small number. Saw a few ground squirrels about April 13 To Bircher's Road House We got away from Wilson a good time and started across the Titim Pan. Fortunately the road proved to be good except for a good many siding places when we had to use every precaution to keep from rolling. We reached the summit of the Titim Pan about 2 o'clock and the road house on the other side about 3. Then we stopped for the night. The elk are still in fine shape. I saw tracks of 3 wolves on the Pan and a few Fremont squirrels Saw 3 or 4 much in the valley above Lee Road House. A number of martens have been caught there between them and the summit
