Tuesday May 28
Tangled and saw three, but
did not succeed in getting
any, though Anthony already
has taken one. We also
saw one cottontail & the wind
blew furiously all day.
Sunday May 30:
Anthony visited the traps
but failed to no microtus.
In the afternoon we walked
west to Mondale and exam-
ined the site of old Fort
Union. It stood on the
north bank of the Missouri
205 miles above the
mouth of the Yellowstone, and
the state line as now marked
runs through the site of the
Post, though most of the
rums, now consisting only
of the remains of cellars,
a few ruins of fireplaces,
and the mere outlines of
buildings, lie mostly east
of the line, and therefore
in North Dakota. Afterward day
Monday May 30 Buford
We made a trip to the
river flats but did not
succeed in seeing a rabbit.
Anthony shot a Lepus campe-
stris on the hills. Mr. I town
we saw a number of birds,
not before detected and
took a chat and a
blackheaded grosbeak.
The day was quite warm
with practically no wind

Packed up all specimens
and finished up all work
preparatory to leaving for
Cullbertson
