Thursday July 21. Left shortly after midnight and saw smoke at 1:30 am. and after picking up my specimens left at 6:15 A.M. Steamed up the river at the early and stopped at Birch Island about midnight. Towing barks out The leader U.S. affairs to other matters. Friday July 22 To Rocky Riverside Depot. Birch Island About 10.20 A.M. and cautious up the river passing Blackwater River early in the evening. The border are bright with fire wood. Seen very few birds. On Birch Island observed the Alder with irregular edged leaves which I have seen and taken before, 1420.
