Thurs, Oct. 7. The Gambia church bells awok me at about 5.30 and I was up by six, had my bath and break- fasted by seven. Dropped in on Mr. Saleby and then on Yeager and Fairs. I found in the both. I wandered around the streets and walk to the market. Saw Dr. book of North Pole fame on the street and also met Col. Troub. Walked around to the M. Bartleman and chatted until noon; the books and I looked over the church. Took a rest after tiffin and then called on the Dr. Baker's but they were out; met Judge Hewerd on the street and walk around to the house and called on Mrs. Hewerd. Walked down to the pier and met Mr. & Mrs. Parker there. After dinner Fairs took me around, to a Mr. Dennison who is to played pool all the evening; I visited with a Mr. Allen. Had a very heavy rain just before we came home. Not been dark and threatening all day.
