102 Mon. Oct. 4 Was awake before light and had tea and work on deck and then my "tin-can" both.. We had an early breakfast just as we came to anchor at Bela, De Lersson and I went ashore together, washed over to the club and then we got a nice and dinner around the towers, a much cleaner and better dwelling place than I expected. The boat was due to sail for Dammagmete at 9 but with its usual Spanish "manana" habit did not get away until 11. De Lersson, Col. Shanks & Mr. Beatt all left the boat at Bela. As we left below three U.S. torpedo boats destroyers steamed out along side of our boat even left me in the distance. Nothing much to see on the run from Bela to Dammagmete: reached the latter place at about 6 but I did not go ashore. It lies a beautiful location at the foot of a high mountain Culmora de Negro, (The Ram of Negro.) I slept some looking in the morning and went to bed quite early. Everybody in ashore.
