Men. Feb.29 I was out at 6 and had tea and went with Breakenbury, Booth and two chaps who were stripping with him. I started out at 9.15 and made a pony to Meng- Kabong, saw Marville and a pipewort but did not stop to collect it there. At Mengkabong I took a boat and came down the Tuaran River and after two hours walked over a little ridge and then with another boat with six men and set out for Jesselton, had some rain but after I got within sight of J. a very bad storm came up, the rain came down in sheets, had very heavy wind and the seas was so bad that we shipped water, could not see any land and we had to change our course and I thought we would never reach land. I finally slackened up a little and I got into the Bunting at about 3.30 and got to the Rest House just ahead of another downpour. Had tea, looked up my luggage, opened up my clothes and specimens which are with had dinner & wrote up my notes. Almost the worst ever working day that
