Wed Nov. 10 I was up at 6:30 and stirred up the boys and they came all the hurry of packing up and getting off. Mrs. Clemens insisted upon drying plants and delayed packing. She and C. [illegible] left with some of the cook's at about 8 but I waited until about 9.30 to get someone carry his trunk. Had a wait near the gorge for another carly for the same thing. I found some of his glassware by the way. Early in the gorge I proceeded to fall in the river and lose the heel of my other shoe. Then it began to rain. I stopped at the big rock, where I can to have my "pepper sand factory" for a little lunch and again just before I left the river I finished it. Had the chink up to Lobang Rock in 9 down pears. Found the Clemens all dry in bed while for the trunk I blew in at about 2.45' wet, cold, cross and tired. Got into dry clothes, had dinner, songs by the Clemens for the benefit of my display of temper, a smoke and and then lied on the ground.
