130 Mon. Nov. 1 This is my 34th birthday. I had my usual preliminary performances this morning and at about 9 I packed up some cracker and chocolate and started out with Sampat, Hasilandi's do guide. We went straight up the hill back of the rest house until we reached the ridge, followed just under that for away and then dropped into the valley on the other side, collected a curious compositae and some more or less curious ferns. I tried to follow the stream up to the top of the spur but it was choked with dead bamboo; formed a path up to the left and I climbed up that and ate my lunch facing to Maria Parai's spur; came down away and crossed the gully and collected a marsh curious parasite? at the base of a tree. Reached terms at one a Lord of a rain. Put my plank in trees. The Chaplain has been deluged with with orchids brought in by the Duranes. Supper, smoke and bed. A delightful day.
