Sun Oct. 24 I was awake early and heard it raining but as I have practically finished my collecting here at Jesselton, did not mind. Up at seven and had my bath and then breakfast, brought my drinks in the engine house across the street. The Clements went to Chinese seris and I walked down the track by the eastern house; collected an ixora and a few ferns; some fertile grounds of one that I have looked many times for. Also looked for shells but only found three or four. I had a stiff climb up the hill through the brakes, and then followed along on top of the ridge; got in just before one and had my bath and changed clothes. Put some plants in press and changed drinks again. Walked up to the business part of town and bought some candy. Began a letter to Lina & Dora and Frances
