Lil Brown 1968 First Term Mickeen Island About may have a tendency to stay around the brackish island same as if they were having young successfully. This is only an idea since there is no way of proving that roosting birds are nest failures. They are so jumpy that as soon as an approach is made, all are up in the air in wild confusion. I have not even been able to sample the hispan roosting birds for band recovies. Averaging Plot samples [there plot incidentally] were wiped off to get maximum efficacy in counting the bird at night. Hence, if for some reason, one became confused counting, it was simply a matter of starting over again since in boundaries were stable. Plots by averaging adults counted on plots an average plot contains 174 adults. By figuring 2 adults per chick ration 23.7, the average plot has 23.7 chicks. This latter figure is more logical and will be used in the final estimation. In those plots which had fewer than adults per egg or chicks, another reason may be that some parents would be out to see feeding or catching food for the young, & in fact it is not yet really considering that both parents & each chick lay an egg would be on the island every night. 27 Oct. An estimated 1000 Spotter roosting on the dry - slightly moist sand flats along WNN side of lagoon.
