Laysan Albatross
Laysan Albatross
The albatross were in approximately
the same age groups as those of Laysan,
i.e., down covering the feathers over
the heads, lower breast & napes on most
individuals. Individuals were
scattered over the entire island with
some clumping in cleared areas and
along the beach. Parents were seated
coming in the daytime to feed the
chicks.
An actual count of 2785 locals
plus 198 adults was made during the
afternoon of 18 June. Estimated
5000 locals + unknown # of adults
as only 4 people made the count
and much of the interior was
missed.
