Tewaals Survey #13 - Searacounts (1)
Common Noddy
Daypan
Abundant throughout the Searacole
fringe and also in Oponeg along
the central lagoon. Nest meets on the
ground beneath seacliff bushes, and a
tendency for placement at the foot
of grass clumps along the lagoon.
A few pairs are found throughout the
Solly Fern colonies, these nesting
exactly as do the Soties - beneath
an overhanging clump of grass.
Nesting ranges from fresh eggs to
nearly full fledged young. An
equal abundance of egg and
several day old chicks are present
at this time.
Population estimates are difficult
to make as so many birds are
tucked away beneath vegetation:
Guesstimate 25,000.
