R.L. Cramin Journal - Leeward, #13 1966 24 - 04N; 166 - 26W — 28 - 19N; 164 - 6W John. 48 23 June - 25 June Sear ginte rough along the entire return route. Drifted offshore Kauai on night of 24-25 June and stayed about Kauai all day 25. Had sheffin but this proved ginte dangerous due to very heavy squalls. An oil slick was put out, but attracts very little. Roughly 8 storm petrels were noted (white- sumped), most of these showed little interest in the slick. Most of those which were seen close could not be other than Harcourts - flaring large white sump. One was collected. Harcourts - Woodpatch base - nesting unquestionably on Kauai. Birds were noted both flying towards and away from the island. We were probably 3-5 miles offshore Wainan canyon. Newells were common - 3 collected. About 5 Dark-sumped Petrels were seen - mostly coming inward toward the islands in early after noon. One hit hard but got away. Cruised Oahu 0600 on 26 June.
