take pictures - fish seemed to become
more active (apparently eating the scum)
that fell into the water).
One fish seem to remain unmoving for
several minutes - exposed in the sun and
over the grey matter until disturbed by another
fish. (~1430 hrs.)
Fish collected by dipnetting and put into
tank cage.

Photographs taken of these fish and others)
before selection. Many of the fish died while
in styrofoam cooler, even though the water
was quite warm (at least 70°F) the cooler was standing
on the upper shelf (in the water), and we renewed
the water frequently and handled them with as
much care as possible. It was, however,
necessary to use a measuring board to
measure fish the approx size of which seemed
right to put in the cage. Even careful handling
with measuring boards is a terrible shock to the fish,
and has been previously, also.
Note: while seining we found a Rana catenulata
tadpole (~4" long) on the upper shelf.
