Calesaneous concretions with sub-fossil shells. Machiée
Dendrophylla—given to Mr. Dana by a gentleman in Madeira
who said it was brought up from deep water off the Island.
I do not feel by any means certain this statement is to
be relied upon—it has the appearance of an E.S. spe-
ces.

Purpura—Small tuberculate—Violet mark. entrance of Dr.
Cancellaria—10 spec. probably from Indian Ocean, from a friend
at Caribou.— 1 — Beach at Porto Hoppo.
Mytili—Encrust rocks in Harbor of Rio
Mitra—found in old Mollusca —loc.— (with sed)
Lithotonia—Rocks in Harbor of Rio. 20 spec. White, speckled

&c. Same locality. Smaller, black with white striae.

Helix pellis serpenti. 3 spec. 95. Only found near Tijuen
