June 18. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
The center clearing, then back into
weeds in C-7; while the second
(ident. as Φ3) came into the open,
than flew up toward North corner.
A series of two Cow! calls heard
nearby at this time. At 1635, the
Φ3 seen to go into dense grass
dump in the corner (E-1). I
searched this area and flushed
at the Φ crouched in the ex-
treme corner - he remained
still until I came within about
2 feet, then flew. No sign of
a nest or a Φ in this vicinity.
Cut weeds till 1652. No activity
up to 1700.
June 19. Strawberry Canyon, Alameda Co.
1310 A pair of birds were perched on
the large instrument shelter in the
Behavior Lab. pen. The nest in
A-3 was unattended, no change
in the eggs. At 1316 this pair re-
turned to the shelter, the Φ (green)
perched on top while the Φ fed
nearby for a moment, then perched
on small shelter. 1324 Both birds
flew to area A-3 & Φ returned to nest.
