California Condor Eben Mcmillan Page 6 6 February, 1963 Jan and I left for Fillmore at 5:00 A.M. going by way of Carissa Plains, Curama Valley and Ojai, arriving there at 9:00 A.M. We located the residence of Eugene Percy at 332-D Street in Fillmore and received from him the key to a locked gate going to his Ranch in Hopper Canyon, as well as instructions how to get there. Within drove to the home of Mister Sidney Peyton, who also lives in Fillmore, and discussed Condor matters with him. Sid Peyton thinks Condors are holding their own in the Sese-Hopper Canyon area, stating that he had observed 15 Condor lately in the Sese area 5 of which were Young - Eugene Percy does not think Condors are as plentiful now as in past Years. Percy saw a flock of 20 Condors feeding on dead cow on Hop Int. in late January of 1962. This is the most he has observed in one flock for several years. He sees Condor quite often over his ranch property - a flocks of 8 Condor he saw last week included two juvenile birds. We drove to Mouth of Hopper Canyon, by 1:00 p.m., stopping there for lunch. We immediately saw one adult Condor Circling above the west side of the Canyon opposite us. This Condor flew out of sight towards the West. Another Adult Condor was soon seen Circling Over the Center of the Canyon a bit to the west side and it flew out of sight up the main Canyon. At 1:40 P.M. we continued up the west
