(Notes)

first observation + as it flew along other
also would dive a foot at it. It
probably landed on East Island.
Other- Did Merrill departed this
afternoon for Honolulu. We carried both
the 2000 tails + 200 body lean sera
samples.
Wed. July 29
Sand Is. — Bulwer's Petrel — another
young chick found tonight along the
south bank of the causeway between
the Gran "A" antenna + whip antenna.
It was quite old (10-20 days). One egg
was found cracked along one side +
'everything had leaked out, so it was
collected even though it was in poor
shape. This nest with the destroyed egg
was on the North bank of causeway, next
of the signal building, under the rusty
pipe (6 adults 642-01132). Totals include
12 nest sites, 3 young (10-20 days old) +
1 egg. Thus 27 birds (24 adults + 3 young)
are using the island.
Thur. July 30
Sand Is. — Wedge-Tailed Shearwater —
landed the birds in the burrows on the
island in preparation of change-over studies.
In all but one case, only one of the pair
was landed or the return recorded. Only
one of the pair was painted, which help to
