Sat. July 25 (cont) of July 24.
Sooty Tern Heads — collected 16 immature
+ 3 adult heads today. This makes the total
to 25 immature + 10 adult heads
Sun. July 26
Sand Is. — Sooty Tern Heads — 4
immature + 4 adult heads collected +
frog.
Ticks — 600 ticks, Ornithodoros capensis
(family Argasidae) were collected from
the Northeast peninsula. All were found
beneath stones + boards. It was noticed
that the population has dropped considerably.
This is probably due to the lack
of nesting sooty terns in this area.
Christmas Island Shearwater — the only
two young upon the island were banded
today; 514-78032 was under the plywood
board along the east shore + 514-78033 was
beside a wooden beam just south of 78032
by approximately 25 feet.
Other — Phil Lehman arrived today
to replace Dick Marill. Dick will leave
Tues, July 28 for Honolulu
Mon. July 27
Sand Is. — Ticks — 1400 ticks were collected
from the Northeast peninsula from beneath
stones + boards. The 2000 ticks collected the
past two days will leave with Dick on Tues.
