Fri. July 3
Johnston Is. — Bird shipment — Bay
Jillson left with the birds a 2 PM
this afternoon. Johnston Is. was searched
for the albino but we were unable
to turn it up. We still hope that
it may return even though its dance
do not look good. Also accompanying
Bay Jillson are 1000 live chicks which
we collected yesterday off of the Northeast
Peninsula of Sand Island.
Sand Island — Hawaiian Noddy Tern —
one nest with one egg found atop
an Amaranthus viridis near the
southeast corner of the transmitter
building. This is the first time this species
has nested in this area this year. The other
two nests on the same plant species
but SW of the Transmitter building have
recently been destroyed.
Greater Frigatebird — In the nesting
frigate colony 18 young birds were
counted + 1 egg was pipped.
Wedge-Tailed Shearwater — an egg was laid
in nest # W13 today + in # W6 a
bird was found incubating an egg, however
this bird has moved its egg from a
connecting burrow into our marked nest site.
Brown Booby — Nest # 33 abandoned. There
is also one new nest with one egg. The bird
incubating this egg was earlier marked with
