that the bird will be found. If the
bird does not make Johnston, but instead
falls to the water, its chances of survival
will be small, so it will most likely
be swept to sea. Once it is in the
water I doubt if it will be able to get
off of it again.
Eight young sooty terns (not yet
fledged) were also readied for shipment
tomorrow. These terns will go back to
the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.
Run down on the bird shipment is as
follows:
1. Total birds captured: 40 birds
2. Species: 21 Greater Frigatebirds
11 Red-footed Booby
8 Sooty Terns
3. Greater Frigatebird i.a. 20 adults, 1 immature
b. 18 from nesting colony
c. 2 from outside nesting area
d. 2 banded (1 was immature)
e. of the 2 banded, one from
colony & one outside colony (asked)
4. Red-footed Booby i.a. 1 adult + 10 immatures
b. 7 from nesting frigate colony area
c. 4 outside nesting area
5. Sooty Tern: all 8 birds un-fledged young.
