June 30 Sand Is. — A #7 band which read 587-527.55. I was found lying in the tunnel on the islet. The band was closed but there wasn't any bird remains to be seen. How long this band has been lying in the dirt is difficult to say + it was most likely exposed to the surface by a burrowing wedgetail. Wed. July 1 Sand Is. — Bird Shipment — Bay Jillian arrived today for the shipment of live D. Frigate + Red-footed Boobies. The allina dirty Terns + 7 other boats are also to be escorted back by him on July 3. Twenty-four birds were captured tonight, 14 D. Frigates + 10 red-footed boobies. Of the D. Frigates there were 13 adults + 1 immature; of the red-foots there were 9 immatures + 1 adult. All but 6 of these birds were taken from or near the nesting frigate colony. Four of these red-footed boobies, one of which was the only adult to be captured. Only 2 frigates could be taken off the guy wires + from the other nesting
