B. minus, Meis.- Althuia described by Hooker as remarkably handsome, and by Meissner as very smooth and shiny, as they also are in propria specie in H. & Gray. Some show the althuia minutely roughened, while in this variety they are either platanus or more or less tubulose which, are upon the same plans. This is P. coccinata of Nutt. MSS., with "rugulosa althuia" althuia taken from "Columbia plains" & his MSS. P. rubricatuma, glabrous, from Rocky Mts. N. Calif.- It is also 450 H.H. from Colorado & 125 from near Donner Lake, Calif. a) Aug. 29, 1868. S. Humb. Mts.- Clover above Lake 7,100 ft., 12½". b) April 12, " Cloma Mts.- heads of Carton- 9,000 ft.
