July 27, (No.) - Mr. Reed of Drake 59p. 175.- ?- resembles E. palustris but much stouter; the large branched sheaths deeply cleft,- spikes 6-8" - bristle u, exceeding the tuberous style 2-cleft, - fairly acuminally syntriged. (First Aug. 17, 186) - "Mountain cation" - near Bighorn - (W.W.B.) 94p. 11. 20, 1864.- Washington Valley - Creek bank 176.- Trinibritylis Kingii, Culms 12-14' high, from a pyramid abutonifera root; rigid, erect, pruned, atrium, acarbons; leaves shorter, channeled 5 mm. or less acuminate (1-2" broad) hispid acarbons ; spikes 3-5, the central one with an involucrum of 3 acarbons. Leaflets mostly shorter than the rays; spikes orange or brownish, the scales thin, light chestnut color, pubescent; stamina 3; style 2-cleft, feice + ichis brevisima; achene broad, ovate, obconiform, very minutely striate & obtusely rhombic. - Near F. chadica - but rough pubescent throughout, the scales thinner or less rigid, the achene more tumid & rather smaller - scales & sheaths less deeply cleft. Syracuse, 1869. Herbarium - Franklin Valley. 109p. 571 14v.H. seems to be in the F. chadica, also 359 Palmer, 1864, from the Indian Territory with the upper sheath & scales somewhat acarbons.
