163. J. Durandianus, Bonga (Engl. l.c. p. 439.) Stems from a thick cumply
root-stock, conspicuous, rather low (4-12') compressed, weak; sheaths
[illegible] the thinly compressed leaves annuled ; flowers (15-25) dark brown,
judicellate aggregated into a head of 2 or 3 branches then trifurcate, achene
with lanceolate, otherwise acuminate, subulate, the inner usually a little shorter;
[illegible] or rarely equally the other 6 (or 3) stamens; anthers oblong or oblong-
linear, and usually acuminate, equal or shorter than the filaments ;
style usually shorter than the flower, ovary and style densely pubescent.
[illegible] short, conical at apex and minutely ciliate, common in limestone, Sierra and
malachite, and in the mountains from north Berkeley to southern California,
and Colorado.

a thick cumply root, an epiphyte ; head few-flowered, flowers

stamens, equally the filaments; style shorter than the ovary; stigma capitate
[illegible] and ovate. Malachite, and in calcar, limestone, etc., Sierra.
Stems 5-10 feet tall, leaves broad, pinnatilobed, 5-10 straw-colored thin flowers in each
head; achene equal shorter than the beaked capsule.
