Feb. 8. Saw of hawk, mentioned on 4th.
Was in oak by stable door & made a
grab at pigeons on roof, 5:15 p.m.
Feb. 9. Band of quail in beets in veg.
Elable garden, 10:30 a.m. Fired at 2
x got 3 band rose. Took 1 of 2 strag-
glers & dropped him. Looking for
more I saw a wing-tipped bird
rush for hedge. Fired at too close
range to hit him. Think this is
the one I dropped. A hen of 3 first
mentioned - got out of pocket &
I caught her 2ft. from hedge.
Scared a 3 from dead apple
bough. Took him on run & when
smoke cleared I saw him heading
slightly wing-tipped for hedge.
He was going 10ft a jump 73
jumps a second the hardest
mark I ever shot at. Missed
him. Got a hen from a flock
in express S. of tower briar oak
& hit another in express S. of tm
nis vacross road. Shot a 2 robin
