1896 Jan 25. Fired at a big bark setting on a cloot in ploughed Clover (raised) end of meadow & cant find him after getting over fence. Shot another on Iron Bear ave & made steak. Big band quail E. of asparagus, in orchard. Could have gotten 3 or 4. Thousands of "cans" along narrow gauge Tristle. Saw 1 bundle of several hundred thick as a bag of shot. A hunter on Traic had the head of a St. Blue Strion in very mature plumage; shot in C.C. Co. Neck whitish; head white with black crest. Blees says he shot a Bittern (Am.) from a barr on Ala. marsh. Feb. 4. on 5th 5:15 p.m. a 6? 5/8 hawk flew low, over her yards. Lots squawks this year in Cypress by stable. Never heard them talk to each other before this year.
