recovered flew to brush pile, Dog got a blk gruise. Saw a Short-t eared owl about sunset by back road, flying high, evident by scared by hntsrson marsh. 1896 Jans. Bunch of quail in poison oak ie "brush pile". I did not bother them. None in orchard until I got to lower gate (apple Ave, & mead- ow) & flushed 5 or 6 without a show to shoot. Coarts in beets by High St. rose beyond range in a flock. A Bur. owl flew up & I took a "curve" shot at close range missed. About 40 flickers in greenings & beets. No quail by Smith's. Dog got a rabbit. Quail in pasture too far. Flock rose in beets along back road & took to expresses before I got within range. Saw a Town- sends Spar? in brush pile last eve. Not a robin in sight.
