1895 Nov.10. Walked all own saw few quail back of Garibaldi's in trees & opp. old house in orchard & they flew out so I couldnt get a shot. Fired at one, close range, in branches rel didnt drop him. Saw 2 in poison oak in brush pile & got 5 m 1 shot. 1 male flew to Lincoln Ave with 3 or 4 shot holes & broken leg. Got 1 more in tree overhead & quit. Nov.24 Had bad luck shooting park in orchards & to meadow & got 3 or 4. Quail in brush pile & I didn't want to pot them so let them alone. A band along corn stubble along Smith's fence flew into Palmers & a lot in briars of "farther quail oak" flew around corners & I got 1 in briars. Dog wouldn't work but got a grouse. Dec 1st. Didn't go out, allie sick. A sjs hawk got 2 small chisup & bred. Is chasing flickers & makis
