Oct 29. Home with bad cold. a Big
Hawk in oak near my house. Took a
shot a it with Duck's n.g. rifle. Like the
hawk I got from him that the boys
call Cooprids hawks.
Nov. 3. Heavy rain during night.
Shot & quail in mabel's lot. Got a tin
squeash s. of meadow r missed 3 shot:
the birds rose & flew past me. Got st
larks, 3 of them on wing, 2 were high up.
41 of the 2 fall as if dead, but only wing-
tipped. Shot 1 of above lot fluttering,
hesitating about lighting. Missed one
far, broke a high ones leg, r missed 3 or
4 on long rice & side shots. Big band
quail rose from thick horse weeds
s. of Bartlett pears & flew to express
back Garibalde's. Could have spotted
