1 fever plumagrd (adult) toh cypress s. of Δ lilac bed, also hit 1 on fly. Saw lots of quail fivers btws. Tennis & Row oak some arizonas among them. Sept.17. Palomares Canon 6. a.m. Geo. Lewis got 1 quail. (young) 6 shot I fired 2 1missed, up canons later on n. side. flushed a small band that ran across road & got 2 shot 1 no birds. Much scarcer than 1st yr. Shot at a rabbit in a gully from hie & he jumped as I pulled trigger. Hit 1 later & lost him. Shot at a blackish or slate blue bird about size of a lark that kept concealed (Gal Thrasher?) like a mocker. Travel 1 mor. Saw barn owl & road runner feathers. Also a big owl prob- ably Short-eared with 1 strab. it! A red tail on a dead tree as I came across a hie top. Fired at 2 more quail & lost both. Can't hit anything. Got
