Saw a deer following trail above creek from where I sat after getting 2 d. was a doe or shed horn buck. Quail. Let 2 more across creek in dry sage. Dog would not work on dry rocks & I had hard work to keep upright & several good shots got away but I could brace & aim. Peppered a buzzard. Got 2 more quail in vineyard on road & makes 7 & about 8 larks.(?) Got 3 larks in succession in a meadow Canon 1 from, 1 toward, 1 across; all on fly. missed 2 flyers got 2 on fancers. Rowed 1/2 mile along river saw a G.B. Nixon & 2 terra- pin. This was just after lunch. 9/28 walked past woods's Tower 2 dizzy bridges along San Benito R. Loto larks robed. Thick as flies but
