flying about a school of fish-
Came quite close to shore.

Jan. 31. Two Swallows seen today with
long pointed wings, green back
and white under parts.
Feb. 6. About 4 P.M., a long straggly
string of crows seen flying
from a field (Frank Josephs)
Towards the river to what I sup-
pose is their roosting place!
Two or three y.g. U.n. Gulls
seen feeding upon the remains
of a dead salmon left by the
flood upon my land near the
river bank.
Feb. 7. Heard a Calif. Shrike singing
today. I approached within
about four feet of it under
covers of the shrubbery. I wat-
ched it through a small open
space. It must have notice-
