failed to get the bird. Oct.4 Weather has seemed more like winter for last two or three days. Wind from E in morning. Blackbirds are in much larger flocks and are more common than here-to-fare. They come around me more when I am at work in the fields. Oct.5 First appearance of Am. Pipit this season. A dozen in one flock, two in another. No Swallows seen for a long time. Oct.9 Several birds commonly called "Jack Snipe" seen. They are the first I have seen closely. I think they are Wilson's Snipe. Oct.10 An eagle seen near river mouth having whitish subterminal tail markings.
