April-10. Brown & parrows are more scattered
than in fall and winter
April-16. Heard a Steller's (?) Jay's song yesterday
that was quite musical. It consisted of low rather indistinct warbles, subbells, etc.
May-5. About two weeks ago I saw
for the first time a couple of swallow-like birds having long
pointed wings and a long tail
that may have been White-throated Swits! Also saw on same
date two California Condors. This
was in "fall canon" of Redwood
creek. I think undoubtedly they
nest here but it would be a difficult matter to locate their nests!
On the same day I heard any number of "Mountain Quail" deep down in two of the
forks of Redwood Canon in the Redwood timber. I was unable
however to catch sight of a
single bird although I was
